Welcome aboard, experienced captains and land lubbers alike!
So I needed a boat and bought this ancient old thing. Here it is floating peacefully in it's natural environment-
She's made entirely of wood, and is completely out of my envelope of experience with it so expect fires, crashes and the occasional sinking 😆
It's a model of a 50's RAF rescue boat. There's a few bits knocked off here and there, the paint is very thick and a bit messy too. I'll run it like this for a while and paint stripper it over the winter, then de- militarise it and add some elegant little civilian details and a tasteful new paint.
Looks like a really nice boat. And with the work I have seen on that "what did you do to your RC today" thread it looks ready for a proper test on the river. Hope it all goes well, I will be watching this, and probably won't be long before I have to keep telling myself I don't need a boat as well.
I am a mad RC loving lawn mower racing lunatic with a desire for over-powered RC's.
I left it in the paddling pool overnight to see if it would float for several hours and it did although about half a cup of water poured out after I held it upside down. I found a tiny hole and a bit of tape will do until the big winter refurbishment.
what turn motors in the boat? just seems too fast for scale speed and forcing the bow waves over the front like Clarkson everytime he gets in the water on top gear haha
The hounds will be muzzled if the staff hurry up and get it done 😆
I've no idea what the motor's rating is, it's pretty high turn and very old, I've just swapped it out and put a fine and perky Tamiya Dirt Tuned motor in there, moved the battery rearwards and the old motor will also be used as ballast or an anchor because it's small and heavy 😆
I see a winter refurb of nail varnish pink happening
The colours will be pink underside, white main hull, possibly sea green deck and a white cabin. With a bit of de-cluttering, and the addition of a few dinky scale details to properly convert it into my personal high speed holiday ship 😎
There are a few scenes of the RAF launches in this low budget war movie.supposed to be MTBs but used the later rescue / target towing launches. The proper MTBs are only seen at the beginning and seems that they used mostly model boats for most of the scenes. The film is a bit dire admittedly. You’ll be using fast forward a lot.
